A Brief History

The Sittingbourne Philatelic Society was formed way back 70 years ago, as a result of a meeting called by Mr Lawrence Easton in 1936. During the Second world war the Society must have ceased owing to no records from 1939. Then on 12th April 1947 the Society resumed after hostilities ended.

In 1974 at the start of the new season, it was decided by the committee and accepted by members, that the clubs name be changed to “Swale Philatelic Society”, to encompass the Towns of Faversham and Sheerness.

Then in 1991 a postcard group formed by Tom Stevens was added to the Society, It was then decided by the committee and accepted by members, to change the name to The Swale Philatelic Society and Postcard Group. But at the AGM in May 2011; a proposal to change the name again was unanimously agreed by all attending to “The Swale Philatelic & Postcard Society”
