Policy DM 10 (Page 233)

The Council is planning to create new Gypsy and Traveller sites within every new housing development.

"For housing proposals between 50 and 149 dwellings, one pitch shall be provided for Gypsies and Travellers. For 150 dwellings and above (or 200 dwellings on previously developed urban sites), unless a commuted sum has been agreed with the Council, 1% of the total number of dwellings proposed shall be serviced and made available to Gypsies and Travellers as pitches and/or bespoke accommodation, either for sale or rent, as appropriate, and up to a maximum of 10 pitches on any one allocation."

This has been promoted by Councillor John Wright and backed by Swale Council leader Andrew Bowles.

Rather ironically Cllr Wright cites that one of the main issues in his ward is Oak Lane gypsy encampment, which he personally objected to.
