‘Grace Darling’ by George Wildridge

Home / Events / Lectures and Talks / ‘Grace Darling’ by George Wildridge

George Wildridge will tell the tale of Grace Darling, born in 1815 ‘the year of the Battle of Waterloo'.

Famously Grace was looking out from an upstairs window of the Longstone Lighthouse on the Farne Islands and spotted a wreck and survivors of the Forfarshire on Big Harcar, a low rocky outcrop.

The Forfarshire had foundered on the rocks and broken in half; one of the halves had sunk during the night.

Amidst tempestuous waves and gale force winds there followed an amazing rescue of the survivors.

The talk is £3.00 for non-members and just £1.00 for Sittingbourne Society, Sittingbourne Heritage Museum and Historical Research Group Of Sittingbourne members - please take your membership card along with you.
