It has been another record year for the Rotary Club of Sittingbourne Invicta’s Annual 10K Race which attracted 397 registrations for the main event and a further 210 children took part in the 2K Fun Run.

There appears to be no stopping Ben Tyler from Gillingham (Medway and Maidstone AC) who came first for a third successive year, completing the course in 33:55 minutes just shy of his record winning time of 33:21 in 2014 and 33.:27 minutes in 2015.

Rhys Goddard, Ben Tyler and Ed Bovingdon

In second place was Rhys Goddard (Nene Valley Harriers) with a time of 34:27 and in third place Ed Bovingdon (Istead and Ifield Harriers) with a time of 34:38.

Maria Heslop

Best Female was Maria Heslop from Paddock Wood who came 9th overall with a time of 37:33 minutes.

Mayim Bragin, Ethan Gear and Alexandria David-Jones

Winners of the 2K Fun Run were Mayim Bragin (2nd), Ethan Gear (1st) and Alexandria David-Jones (3rd)

Event organiser Beverley Willis was keen to emphasize that this community event was not about raising money, although any residual funds after expenses are distributed between the principal charities and The Rotary Club of Sittingbourne Invicta’s Community Chest which has benefited dozens of smaller local clubs and groups over the years.

This year the principal charity is the Swale arm of Kent Young Carers and money generated will be used to fund a respite weekend on a sailing barge named ‘Camberia’.

To date The Rotary Club of Sittingbourne Invicta has managed to raise around £40,000.

Beverley Willis

Sadly, after 6 years, event organiser Beverley Willis who came up with the original idea and has taken this event from inception through to its current dizzy heights of success is stepping down to allow for a fresh face to continue his good work.
