Local gardeners horticultural achievements celebrated at awards evening
On the evening of September 18th at the Fulston Manor School Millennium Hall, Sittingbourne-in-Bloom held their annual prize giving ceremony for the winners of the Spring and Summer front garden competitions.
The Mayor of Swale Borough Cllr Samuel Koffie-Williams presented the certificates and trophies. In his address the Chairman of The Sittingbourne-in-Bloom Committee, Tony Thorley, noted that it had been a “Funny old year”, praising the gardeners of Sittingbourne for meeting the environmental challenges and creating gardens of a high standard that gave inspiration, stimulation and enrichment to the local and wider community.
He also congratulated the community for playing their part in Sittingbourne being awarded a GOLD for the second successive year in the South and Southeast in Bloom competition.
He concluded, “We in Sittingbourne are blessed with many selfless volunteers who work tirelessly to enhance and enrich the environment for their communities, some we have been able to honour tonight. The epithet Unsung heroes rings true, they are those who we have not been able to honour, or perhaps do not even know of. But our society needs them now as never before. We humbly thank you all”.
The evening concluded with Malcolm Moore the retiring Chairman being presented with a Gift from the in-Bloom Committee for his many years of unstinting service not only to Sittingbourne-in-Bloom but to the wider community of Sittingbourne.
