The Sittingbourne Society has presented J D Wetherspoon's with their annual Rose Bowl award for their sympathetic remodelling of the old magistrates court into the "Golden Hope" pub, restaurant & hotel.

Society member Ian Parsons explained “The Rose Bowl award is made annually to a deserving cause that, in the society's opinion, has led to an improvement in the town. In this case the refurbishment and modification of the old Court House to bring it back into commercial use.”

The award was accepted on Monday night by Amy Kortegas, manager of the Golden Hope who told us “It’s nice to know that people think we’ve done a good job with the building and we are very excited to receive the award,”

The Sittingbourne Society founded in 1977 to keep a watchful eye on developments and campaign for various improvements in and around Sittingbourne.

A £50 cheque was also presented to Pam Griggs of the Carnival Association as part of The Sittingbourne Society’s ongoing support for town institutions.
