Guides get stuck in for 25th anniversary
Girlguiding Sittingbourne Division are celebrating this year the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Divisions campsite Hornhill at Milstead. Back in 1991 the construction of the Campsite and Brownies House was complete by an army of volunteers, with vast amount of fundraising and to echo this achievement the Division has embarked on the creation of a new sensory garden and reflection area.
80 volunteers aged between 5-75 years over 3 days have turned a little used area of the campsite into a tranquil haven. The Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Senior Section, Trefoil members, leader and all their families, have cleared, levelled and begun the planting of the new garden.
Jan Blackman Leader of 2nd Sittingbourne Rainbows said “Many hands make light work; it’s been a real team effort from the youngest Rainbow to the strongest Dad all making a difference”
The garden has been design for all member of Girlguiding to enjoy with the girl influencing or taking every decision, even down to the placing of the various planters.
“We are on the home straight” said Lesley Taylors Apple District Commissioner “We have achieved so much with a very limited budget now we need some help to get across the finishing line”
