Have your say on conservation areas

People are being asked if there need to be any changes to conservation areas in Borden Parish and at Tonge.
Swale Borough Council has to review its conservation areas to make sure they still retain their special character and appearance, and to see if any changes are needed in how they are managed.
Changes could include altering the boundary or introducing additional controls in an area.
The council’s recently adopted borough-wide heritage strategy gave a commitment to reviewing all 50 of the borough’s conservation areas on a rolling basis.
Following reviews last year of the Conservation Areas in Boughton, the next areas being consulted on are in Borden Parish, where there are four conservation areas, and also Tonge conservation area.
Cllr Mike Baldock, deputy leader of the council, cabinet member for planning and heritage champion at the council, said:
“We are fortunate to have 50 conservation areas across the borough of varied character and size. Their historic and/or architectural interest justify the extra protection provided to help preserve their special character and appearance.
“Our heritage strategy committed us to making sure these were reviewed more regularly, and we also want to make sure they are being managed positively and effectively.
“These areas are an important part of all our heritage, so we need people to let us know what they think of the conservation areas - are they the right size? Do we need to have additional controls in place?”
The consultation runs from Monday, 5 October until Sunday 15 November.
