Sittingbourne author John Clancy takes a look at Herne Bay through the ages
Herne Bay is the latest town to be researched and photographed by Sittingbourne author John Clancy for his new book, Herne Bay Through Time.
This is John’s seventh such book for Amberley Publishing Ltd and he said it was one of the most enjoyable to undertake. Herne Bay is one of Britain’s oldest seaside resorts and still retains much of its former Victorian charm. Within the past decade much has been done to revitalize the seafront and it is now a delightful place in which to spend a sunny summer’s day.
The book also includes pictures of the surrounding villages of Herne, Eddington, Reculver and Hampton-on-Sea, a long-gone part of Herne Bay which was lost to coastal erosion. John said how fascinated he was to learn how Reculver, famous for its twin towers, was once a large and thriving town, of which today little remains.
Herne Bay Through Time costs £14.99 and is available from all the usual outlets, including Sittingbourne Heritage Museum and Amazon.
