Manor Grove to get a new play area, plus upgrade for Johnson Road play area
The council is planning to install a new play area and fitness equipment at Manor Grove and Johnson Road play area in Sittingbourne is looking in better shape after work to spruce up the equipment was carried out.
Swale Borough Council is currently in the process of looking for contractors to carry out the work at Manor Grove. Whilst they have been busy cleaning and repainted the play equipment at Johnson Road. This includes installing new benches and laying a new path at the park, with new goalposts expected to be installed when the weather allows.
The works are being carried out as part of the council’s ongoing programme to improve local play areas.
Cllr Angela Harrison, cabinet member for health and wellbeing at the council, said:
“We have a number of play areas that have suffered from lack of investment over the years, and we’re committed to doing what we can to get them up to shape.
“We’ve been refurbing and installing new equipment at play areas throughout the borough, and I’m pleased to see how this work has increased the opportunity for children to play safely in this area.
“At Johnson Road we’ve deep cleaned and repainted the play equipment and installed new benches. We’ve also installed a new path to make the play area more accessible and will be installing goal posts once the ground is suitable.
“At Manor Grove we’ll be going out to tender shortly to install an entire new play area and fitness equipment after we removed the old equipment last year. The old equipment was installed about 30 years ago and was no longer compliant with safety regulations.
“The new play area will include toddler and junior multiplay units, a four-person seesaw, double swing set, tipi carousel, spinner bowl and springer in a properly fenced off area with suitable safety flooring and benches.
“We also plan to install fitness equipment at the other side of the green space.”
Cllr Roger Truelove, ward councillor for Homewood, said:
“We’ve made a point over the past few years of improving play areas around the borough and I’m pleased to see the play area at Johnson Road looking refreshed.
“It’s taken us a long time to get the investment needed to upgrade these two play areas and I’m delighted to see this progress.”
Cllr Simon Clark, ward councillor for Homewood, said:
“I’m looking forward to getting the tender process underway, locating a contractor and getting started on the brand-new play area and fitness equipment at Manor Grove.”
