Recycle your pumpkin
Special pumpkin recycling sites will be set up after Halloween in a bid by Swale Borough Council to reduce the amount of food waste going to landfill.
The pumpkin recycling sites will be located at the Bank Street car park in Faversham, the Sittingbourne Library car park in Central Avenue and at the Rose Street car park in Sheerness from Halloween until Saturday 7 November.
The pumpkins will be collected and composted locally at the Countrystyle composting facility at Ridham.
Cllr David Simmons, Cabinet Member for Environmental and Rural Affairs, said: “After they do their job on Halloween we want to make sure pumpkins are recycled. With more and more people carving pumpkins each year it’s a scary thought to think that they might end up in landfill. So please keep up your good recycling habits and make sure to drop your leftover pumpkin at one of our dedicated pumpkin recycling sites or put it out beside your food waste caddy.”
Swale Council will also collect pumpkins from your doorstep, they just need to be placed next to your black and orange food waste bin on your collection day.
