Sittingbourne Carnival draws in the crowds

Sittingbourne High Street took on a Sea Side theme ahead of Saturday’s Carnival Parade with various members of the Retail Association attired in their finest Victorian bathing costumes.
Whilst on a smaller scale that last years’ Carnival International due to next week’s Regency Festival, stall holders managed to keep spirits high ahead of the parade.
Judging of the carnival floats took place at Milton Regis Recreation Ground where prizes were awarded to Ramsgate Carnival Court and the Sittingbourne and Milton Sea Cadets (TS Wyvern) amongst others.
Just one glance at the pavements lined with people, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Carnival procession and you know that regardless of the usual ambivalence towards such events, that there is undoubtedly a strong appetite locally for exactly this type of event.
We may not have the type or size of Carnival witnessed in years gone by, but I don’t think it would be impossible to build on what we do have.
