It’s honestly easy to forget that this is only the second year since the carnivals return to glory following a hiatus of 5 years and boy did it return with a bang, thrilling audiences of all ages with one of the best carnivals in years.

It is one of only a handful of events to survive the post covid cull, but one of the most anticipated and beloved events of the year. People often make reference to the spectacle of carnival processions of yesteryear, but if you have not seen Sittingbourne’s carnival since its return then you really don’t know what fun you are missing out on.

The pre-carnival gathering at Milton recreation ground, where the carnival entries undertake final preparations ahead of judging and commencement of the parade took on a new format this year with several performances to the delight of many participants and viewers alike.

The carnival parade set off along Laxton Way and into Vicarage Road led by Miss Sittingbourne, Poppy, the Mayor of Swale Cllr Karen Watson and princesses Emilia and Imogen onboard a horse drawn carriage the before making its way along a very packed Milton high street.

The parade then progressed along Crown Road, Chalkwell Road and the A2 with a sweep round the one way system prior to its final journey along West Street and through Sittingbourne high street where hundreds of people lined the way.

Kelly Kay, Sittingbourne and District Carnival and Court Association said “I just want to say what I have been saying since Sunday, the Carnival is a year long project that involves a lot of organising and work, but is worth every minute when it all comes together on a day like Sunday.”

“We had even more entries this year and they all put so much effort into taking part. They really were incredible.”

“It was wonderful to see such huge crowds come out and support us. They are the reason we give up our time to produce something that the people of Sittingbourne can enjoy and be proud of.”

“I thank everyone who helped the smooth running of the day, including the marshals, security, drivers and all the volunteers. Safety is the highest of priorities and with such professional and hard-working teams, we can achieve a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone taking part and spectating.”

“Next year is already in the diary, with the theme being revealed very soon. It will be Sunday 30th August 2026 and already booking entries who are very excited to take part!”

“Thank you for joining us, I have been over whelmed with the positive, wonderful feedback from everyone. I love reading the messages from the community of how they enjoyed the event. It really was the most special day and I’m excited to get started on 2026”

It is a real testament to the hard work that goes into organising this much-loved town event, that so many groups, associations and organisations decide to take part and from an ever increasingly wide area too, with entries from as far afield as Hastings and Streatham.

I also want to give a shout out to EVOS the volunteers who marshal this event and made it run like clockwork, we salute you.
