St George’s Day set to be best the town has seen in years

Home / Blog / St George’s Day set to be best the town has seen in years
I am probably not alone in wishing Sittingbourne had some of the great seasonal headline events that draw so many people into towns like our neighbour Faversham. Admittedly we may have some way to go yet but hot on the heels of the enormously success Christmas Light’s switch on, the town is set to play to host to a fantastic array of activities on Saturday 26th.

We know that the Sittingbourne Retail Association have been busy lining up a variety of stalls, rides, displays, live bands, competitions and even a classic car exhibition to keep everyone entertained throughout the day.

There will also be a small parade along the length of the High Street by the a couple of troups of beavers, clubs and scouts around 3pm.

Also not to be missed the Avenue Theatre Group and friends will be taking over the Forum shopping centre to entertain visitors from 11am until 4pm.

Their performance schedule includes:

11:00 – 11:20 Swale Sings - Choir
11:20 – 11:35 CREATIVEdge Juniors -Theatre School
11:45 – 12:00 Avenue Theatre Productions - perform an extract from Mummers Play
12:10 – 12:30 Tumblin Dice - Band
12:40 – 1:00 Tumblin Dice - Band
1:10 – 1:20 Avenue Theatre Productions - perform an extract from Mummers Play
1:30 – 1:40 Katie McQay - 2013 Talent Show Finalist
1:45 – 2:00 CREATIVEdge Seniors -Theatre School
2:10 – 2:20 Katie McQay -2013 Talent Show Finalist
2:30 – 2:50 The Crownless Kings - Band
3.00 – 3:20 Dudes & Divas - Children’s Dance School
3:30 – 3:50 Latvian School Dance Troupe

Francesca Donovan, Centre Manager of The Forum Shopping Centre, commented:
“We are thrilled to be welcoming The Avenue Theatre Group to The Forum once again. Their performances will no doubt draw in quite a crowd. We welcome all types of community groups into the centre and look forward to seeing the variety of music, dance and acting that will be on offer throughout the day.”

This looks fantastic and I am excited to see a great day's entertainment lined up. Let's hope the town has turned a corner as the new development plans look like they are actually achievable and if the public start to support things in the town then we could all find SIttingbourne a town to be proud of.
